Alpha-Cyclodextrin (α-CD)
Alpha-Cyclodextrin (USP-NF, assay 98.0–101.0% on anhydrous basis) is a white to almost white powder made up of six glucose units in a ring, offering a versatile carrier, stabiliser and soluble fibre for supplement, food and pharmaceutical formulations. At Benefacta, we supply this high-purity ingredient produced from starch by enzymatic conversion, ideal for formulators who need to encapsulate small molecules or add a well-characterised soluble fibre.
Whether you are formulating with volatile flavours, small lipophilic actives, fibre-enriched foods or supplements, alpha-cyclodextrin offers the smallest cavity of the natural cyclodextrins, sized for smaller guest molecules that larger cyclodextrins hold less tightly. It is freely soluble in water and propylene glycol, with a solubility of approx. 145 g/L at 25 °C. It can form inclusion complexes that help protect sensitive compounds and retain volatile aromas, and it is also used to stabilise oil-in-water emulsions and as a soluble dietary fibre. This makes it particularly suitable for flavour encapsulation, odour masking, fibre-enriched products and oral dosage forms.
We provide complete traceability and comprehensive documentation (TDS, SDS, COA) with every batch, ensuring consistent quality for European manufacturers. The ingredient’s compliance with the USP-NF monograph, very low related substances and solvent-free production process make it a preferred choice for formulators seeking a clean, multifunctional cyclodextrin with a recognised pharmacopoeial standard.
